About Ruth

I spent eight years as a gym instructor watching people pay for sessions they didn’t understand. So I coach the other way round: explain everything, then hand it over.

Most of my clients work full-time, often at a desk. We train around that, not against it. Three sessions a week is usually plenty.

Outside work I lift, I’m slowly learning to swim properly, and I’ll talk about deadlifts for longer than anyone wants.

How I work

Around your job

Calls at 7am, at lunch or after 6pm. Sessions that fit into 45 minutes.

You’ll always know why

Every exercise, set and rest comes with a reason. Ask about anything, as often as you like.

In your apps

I write programmes in Hevy, Strong, a spreadsheet or your notebook. Whatever you’ll keep using.

Face to face

A video call every two weeks and WhatsApp in between. You’ll always be talking to me.

What you’ll leave with

By the end, you’ll be able to do this on your own.

  1. 01Write your own eight-week strength programme, and know why it’s built that way.
  2. 02Squat, deadlift, press and row with good technique, and notice when it slips.
  3. 03Choose sensible weights, and know when and how to add more.
  4. 04Adjust a session when you’re tired, short of time or away from your usual gym.
  5. 05Tell normal soreness apart from pain that’s worth getting checked.
  6. 06Warm up properly in ten minutes, without needing a video to follow.

Your 16 weeks with Ruth

We agree the end date on the first call. Each stage hands over a little more, so the last block you do with Ruth is one you wrote yourself.

Weeks 1–5

Ruth writes it

A full-body programme, three days a week, with a note on every exercise explaining why it’s there.

Weeks 6–10

You write it together

On a call, you choose the exercises and Ruth asks why. You set the weights for week one yourself.

Weeks 11–16

You write it, Ruth checks it

Your final block. Ruth reads it, asks questions and suggests changes, then watches how it goes.

After week 16

On your own

The programme ends. You keep everything you wrote, in your own apps.
